Karim Makdisi
About Dr. Karim Makdisi is an Associate Professor of International Politics and Director of the graduate program in Public Policy and International Affairs at AUB. He previously served at IFI as an Associate Director and Senior Fellow. He is currently an Affiliated Researcher in the Critical Security Studies working group at the Arab Council for the Social Sciences. His current book project, Disarming Syria: The International Politics of Eliminating Syria’s Chemical Weapons (with Coralie Pison-Hindawi) is under contract with Routledge Press (2023). He is the co-editor of The Land of the Blue Helmets: United Nations in the Arab World (University of California Press, 2017, with V. Prashad); and Interventions in Conflict: International Peacemaking in the Middle East (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016, with R. Khoury and M. Wahlisch). Makdisi is the primary investigator (PI) at AUB/IFI for the European Union Horizon Europe project, “Rethinking and Reshaping the European Union’s Democracy Support in its Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood (SHAPEDEM-EU, 2022-2025),” a multi-national and multifaceted research consortium of academic, think tank, and civil society institutions based in the EU and the Southern and Eastern Neighborhoods.
