Garene Kaloustian
About Garene Kaloustian is an early childhood education scholar and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) specialist whose work sits at the intersection of evidence-based practice, policy design, and large-scale system implementation. Her research and applied work focus on child wellbeing, teacher professional development, education in emergencies, and whole-school approaches to SEL. For over 15 years, Kaloustian has worked across academic, policy, and implementation settings in Lebanon and the Arab region. She served as Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education at the Lebanese American University (LAU), where she also directed the LAU Early Childhood Laboratory Centre. More recently, she led SEL design, research, and national policy development for Lebanon's public schools through USAID's QITABI program, working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), Centre for Educational Research and Development (CERD), and partners including NYU Global TIES and Harvard University. Kaloustian holds a PhD in Child Development from Purdue University. She was a Visiting Fellow at St. Antony's College, Oxford University, and has contributed to research and policy initiatives with UNICEF, the World Bank, and the Brookings Institution.
